Day Two Of Blueberry Festival

It's day two of the Sioux Lookout Blueberry Festival

There is a lot of fun festivities to be had all around the Sioux Lookout area.

There's wagon rides, golf and volleyball tournaments and a Rainbow Beach Party later tonight.

Also at town beach today a Jedi and Princess Themed Star Wars Party will be taking place.

Tea and Blueberry cheesecake will also be served at the Sioux Area Senior's Centre.

Anchors Aweigh For A Week Of Sailing

Anchors away, get ready for a weekend full of sailing.

The Lake of the Woods International Sailing Association has a jam packed weekend ahead of them with 7 days of racing.

Jamie Paterson with LOWISA says there is something for everyone at this event.

" Six days of point to point racing. We will race during the day and spend evenings at wilderness Anchorages around the lake."

Paterson notes this event also really brings people together.

Sioux Narrows Art Festival Is Finally Here

A community event supporting local artists.

The Sioux Narrows Arts Festival is taking place this weekend with a wide variety of things to do.

Suzanne Bouvier Chair of the Sioux Narrows Arts Festival says there really is something for everyone.

"All sorts of painting, we have jewelry of all different walks of life. We have soaps, we have food products, we have glass drawings, wood furniture. Literally you name it."

There will also be some live music to accompany you while you browse.

Raise The Stage A New Community Project

A new community project that needs your help.

A new community stage is in the works to be built at Anicinabe park

Scott Green Manager of Anicinabe Park says it's goal is the have the stage done by fall.

"Finally all our ducks are in a row and we are starting a Go Fund me, just to push the stage project over the edge. We just need to get some community support and get some community help. Hopefully everybody can kind of pitch in and we can get this stage built by the fall."

Two Arrested On Controlled Substances Charges

Treaty Three Police have charged two people in relation to seizure of a controlled substance.

Following an investigation on Wednesday Treaty Three Police seized Cannabis Marijuana and Candian Currency .

In total one pound of Cannabis Marijuana was taken along with Canadian Currency and other drug related items with a street value of 10 thousand dollars.

Sharon Fobister 61 from Grassy Narrows was charged with one count of possesion of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Slow Down And Move Over

Make sure if you hear the sirens behind you to pull over.

OPP are reporting that 2015 marked one of the highest number of tickets handed out due to failure to slow down and move over for an emergency vehicle.

In 2015 alone the OPP laid 2 thousand and 31 charges which is the largest amount since 2008.

The charge can carry a hefty fine of 200 to 4000 dollars and 3 demerit points.

This weekend the OPP will be doing an education campaign called Slow Down and Move Over. 

Two New Fires In The Region

Two new fires reported in the region as of yesterday.

The two fires were both human caused.

Fort Frances Fire 11 is located about 83 Kilometers northeast of Fort Frances and is currently burning at 0.1 hectares in size.

The second fire in the Nipigon District is 25 Kilometers northeast of Longlac and is currently not under control at 0.2 hectares in size.

The forest fire hazard is now listed as moderate to high. 

Lucky Lotto Winners In Ontario

There's a couple of winners from Northwestern Ontario from last night's LOTTO 6/49 draw.

The Ontario Lottery Corporation says the second prize was a ticket purchased in Thunder Bay.

There's also a one-thousand dollar prize ticket from the Thunder Bay area.

The million dollar winning ticket was purchased on-line, but the exact location isn't known.

Minto Summerfest Filled With Smiles

Nothing but kid's smiling at Minto Summerfest.

Minto Summerfest is an annual event put on by Making Kenora Home and brings service providers up to the Minto area to host outdoor activities and interact with residents.

Faye Clark a member of Making Kenora Home talks about why she believes holding events like this are so important in the community.
