One high profile boating fatality already this month.
Last Friday, the former chief of the Kenora Police Dan Jorgensen was killed in a kayaking
accident in Whiteshell Provinical Park.
Kevin Tourdiffe is the regional operations manager for the Life Saving Society says while he was wearing a life-jacket at the time,
the are other factors you need to take into consideration when you head out on a boat trip.
"Be familar with the waterways you are in. Be familiar with the craft you are in, and the conditions you are going to be facing. And as much as solo adventure trips are becoming popular, we would always recommend that you should be boating with a buddy".
Today (Saturday) marks the beginning of Safe Boating Week in Canada and Tourdiffe says their number one
recommendation...wear your life jacket.
