3 Kenora athletes have made the 2017 Canada Summer Games Manitoba Rowing team.
Abby Dent, Breeze Boucha, and Midori Hoppe will compete in the rowing section of the games in Kenora.
The girls trained extensively over the winter months and then took part in selection camps with Team Manitoba before the final team was selected.
Ashleigh Milani Head Coach for the Kenora Rowing club says the girls earned it.
"I'm really proud of the work they put in over the winter time I think it really paid off for them. To see them make the team, for them to learn the lesson of the hard work will pay off really was exciting for me. For our other club athletes to come in and see that this is what it takes to be at this level and to see these opportunities are here in Kenora if you put in the hours and dedication to the training these kind of things can happen to."
Kenora joined the Manitoba Rowing Association due to our proximity to Winnipeg.
Milani adds it has been a huge benefit.
"In the past Kenora has never thought to try out for the Canada Games team just because A) we are so removed, and B) the quality of the programming in Ontario is quite high and there is such a large volume of athletes coming in through the program that it is pretty prohibitive for us to join in."
The rowing portion of the games will be taking place from July 31st - August 4th at Rabbit Lake.
